GOALS Ascent - Centennial (Grades 6-12)
Join Cadette. Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts from all across GSMW on this exciting three-day, two-night backpacking adventure in the beautiful Snowy Mountains of Southeastern Wyoming! You do NOT need to have all of your own gear to join this trip, but there will be a required pack list!
Girls will get to know themselves on a different level as they earn their Cadette Trailblazing and Senior Adventurer Badges. Trying something new, meeting new people, and exploring a new place will teach you something about yourself you didn’t know before.
During the tirp, participants will learn about the following backcountry topics:
- Trip planning
- Outdoor living skills
- Basic navigation
- Risk management
- Emergency procedures
- Group dynamics
There will be one or two pre-trip meetings to prepare all participants for the adventure. During the meetings, we will discuss gear lists and pre-trip planning. Trip leaders will schedule meetings individually with each girl and adult.
On the morning of day one, participants will learn about their gear and how to pack their backpack. We will fit backpacks, divide gear, and pack packs. We will depart to the Snowy Mountains where we’ll begin our journey. We will hike a short distance to our campsite. We will stop often to take photographs, eat snacks, and rest all while learning backpacking and camping skills.
On day two, we will break-down camp and hit the trail to hone our trail skills. On our third and final day, we will return to the trailhead after enjoying a day of beautiful views and new friendships. We will learn new things about nature along the way. We plan to return to Laramie by mid- to late-afternoon.
*Please note that adults on the trip will be an active part of the leadership team. If you have questions about this, please reach out to Amy! Amyi@gsmw.org

This trip is part of the GSMW Girl Scout Outdoor Adventure & Leadership Skills (GOALS) curriculum. Be sure to check out all GOALS options so you can choose the right trip for your girl:
GOALS Cornerstone: A day trip where participants will learn outdoor and leadership skills while enjoying an adventure together in the great outdoors!
GOALS Trailhead: A single-night trip designed for Junior and Cadette girls (4th-8th grade) who do not have backpacking or backcountry experience. Each camper must be accompanied by an adult companion who is a registered Girl Scout volunteer with an approved background check. Tent arrangements can accommodate girls attending with a family or non-family member. Girls will learn backpacking and backcountry basics and gain confidence with their skills!
GOALS Ascent: A three-day, two-night trip for Cadettes who have attended our GOALS Trailhead trip and Senior and Ambassador girls who do not have backcountry experience. With adequate experience and skills, Cadette girls can request instructor approval if they have not attended GOALS Trailhead. Campers may attend this trip as a troop with one volunteer adult per three girls. All adults will participate in activities and supervise campers. Girls will focus on becoming proficient in backcountry living and peer leadership skills.
GOALS Summit: A four-day, three-night trip for Senior and Ambassador girls. Girls do not need to have experience on a previous GOALS trip but should be realistic about the challenge of this trip. This trip is open to girls as well as accompanying adults. Adults will participate in activities and assist as needed. The GOALS Summit focus will annually rotate between Wilderness First Aid, Survival, and Leadership.
Registration for this event is $110 per girl and closes on July 15th.
