DESCRIPTION:GOALS Ascent - Centennial (Grades 6-12) \n  \n  \n Join Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts from across GSMW on a thrilling 3-day, 2-night backpacking adventure in the stunning Snowy Mountains of Southeastern Wyoming! \n  \n  \n This adventure is a perfect opportunity to explore the wilderness, meet new friends, and push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Whether you're an experienced camper or new to backpacking, this trip will offer a rewarding challenge. You don’t need to own all your gear to participate, though a required packing list will be provided to help you prepare. \n  \n  \n Get ready to earn your Cadette Trailblazing, Senior Adventurer or Ambassador Survival Camper Badge as you dive into outdoor living and adventure! You’ll learn valuable skills and insights that will help you grow in ways you didn’t expect. Topics covered throughout the trip will include: \n  \n  \n  \n 	Planning and organizing your backpacking adventure \n 	Outdoor living skills and survival basics \n 	Travel and navigation techniques \n 	Risk management and emergency procedures \n 	Expedition behavior and group dynamics \n  \n  \n Pre-Trip Meetings: \n  \n We’ll hold 1-2 pre-trip meetings where Scouts and registered adults will get all the details for the adventure ahead. These meetings will focus on gear lists, preparation, and any planning required before the trip. Each meeting will be scheduled individually with each participant. \n  \n  \n Day 1: \n  \n Arrive in the morning ready to pack your backpack, get fitted with your gear, and divide up the equipment. After everything is packed, we’ll head to the Snowy Mountains to begin our journey. Our hike will be a short distance to the campsite, where we’ll focus on familiarizing ourselves with essential backpacking skills. We’ll make plenty of stops to rest, take photos, and enjoy the surroundings. In the evening, we’ll learn basic camp skills and prepare for the next day’s journey. \n  \n  \n Day 2: \n  \n After breaking camp, we’ll hit the trail and continue building our hiking and outdoor skills. Along the way, we’ll take time to hone our techniques, enjoy the mountain views, and form new friendships. \n  \n  \n Day 3: \n  \n On our final day, we’ll take it slow, soaking in the scenery and reflecting on our adventure. We’ll head back to the trailhead and plan to return to Laramie by mid-afternoon, where we’ll return our gear and wrap up our unforgettable journey. \n  \n  \n Important Note for Adults: \n  \n Adults joining the trip will play an active role in leadership and support. If you have any questions about your participation, please reach out to Amy at Amyi@gsmw.org. \n  \n  \n Gear Information: \n  \n GSMW will provide all group equipment, including tents, stoves, fuel, water filters, medical supplies, safety gear, as well as breakfast and dinner food, beverages, and guiding. We are happy to accommodate most allergies and dietary restrictions, so please let us know your food preferences when you register. Scouts will coordinate their own trail lunches and snacks, and we’ll offer guidance on what to bring. \n  \n  \n Every participant will receive a list of required gear, and we’re here to help you find anything you might be missing! \n  \n  \n To ensure a positive and safe experience for everyone, instructors may determine that this trip is not the right fit for a participant if physical, medical, behavioral, skill level or other concerns could impact their safety or the group dynamic. \n  \n  \n Learn about ALL GOALS TRIPS HERE!  \n  \n  \n Which GOALS Adventure is right for you?  \n  \n  \n This trip is part of the GSMW Girl Scout Outdoor Adventure & Leadership Skills (GOALS) curriculum. Be sure to check out all of the options so you can choose the right trip for your girl!  \n  \n  \n GOALS Cornerstone: This is a day trip for girls of all ages to begin learning outdoor skills, leadership skills and enjoy adventure together in the great outdoors!  \n  \n  \n GOALS Trailhead: This trip is a single night trip designed for Junior and Cadette girls (4th-8th grade) that do not have any backpacking or backcountry experience.  Each camper must be accompanied by an adult companion who is a registered Girl Scout volunteer with an approved background check. Tent arrangements can accommodate girls attending with a family or non-family member. Girls will learn backpacking and backcountry basics and gain confidence with their skills!  \n  \n  \n GOALS Ascent: This is a 3 day/2 night trip for Cadette girls who have attended our GOALS Trailhead trip and Senior and Ambassador girls who do not have any backcountry skills. Cadette girls can request instructor approval if they have not attended GOALS Trailhead, but do have sufficient backcountry/camping skills. Campers may attend this trip in a troop camp style by including at least one registered adult with approved background check per 2-3 girls. Adults are expected to participate in activities and supervise campers as needed. Girls will focus on becoming efficient at all backcountry living skills and peer leadership skills.  \n  \n  \n GOALS Summit: This is a 3-4 day/2-3 night trip for Senior and Ambassador girls. Girls do not need to have experience on a previous GOALS trip, but should be realistic about the challenge of this trip.  This trip is open to girls as well as any accompanying adults that would like to join the adventure with their girls. Adults are expected to participate in activities and assist as needed. The GOALS Summit will annually vary between a Wilderness First Aid, Survival and Leadership focus.  \n  \n  \n Registration for this event is $125 per girl and closes on August 9th. \n  \n After August 9th, your program registration is non-refundable. \n  \n  \n Current Program Capacity \n
